Welcome to the Frontline Management Institute (fmi)  first newsletter for January 2009. The fmi team would like to give all readers our best wishes for an excellent year.

Australia and the world are going through some difficult and challenging times economically yet they are also, like all times of change, an opportunity for people and organisations to innovate and do things better.

We have noticed an increasing number of people are looking to improve their skills and qualifications particularly in areas of leadership and management. We have had to increase the number of public courses already this year to meet this increased demand. It is clear that leadership skills are being valued more than ever and this is surely a good thing.

In this issue we have the following articles:

2009 Calendar & upcoming public courses
fmi team forum
Recent Graduations
Government Funding for training
New Years Resolutions

fmi’s 2009 public course Calendar has now been released and we have increased the frequency of many courses. This has been due to increased demand and we have already added extra courses since January 1st. Management Skills for New Managers and Building Professional Confidence and Assertiveness are proving very popular so I urge you to book early. We are limiting size to groups of ten to ensure maximum interaction in our public courses.

This year we feature two new courses: Managing in Tough Times and Stress Management in Tough Times. Please go to www.frontlinemanagementinstitute.com.au to view the public course calendar.

To book a course simply phone (02) 9281 2635 or email the fmi team on fmi@managementcando.com

We held our annual fmi team forum on November 6th 2008 at our premises in Ultimo which gave us an opportunity for all of our trainers, assessors and office team to come together to review 2008 and plan for 2009.

The forum was a great success and I would like to give a special thanks to our Client Services Manager, Cheryl Riddington who organised our group activity which was an African drumming class with a group called Inrhythm. The fmi team thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of trying to find the beat together as a team!

If you would like to know more about Inrhythm, please feel free to contact Cheryl

o RECENT GRADUATIONS o

We would like to congratulate all those who have recently graduated from our Diploma and Certificate Qualifications. I was delighted to attend graduations in December in Melbourne for the Bovis Lend Lease Management Development Program and for the NRMA in Sydney. Also congratulations to all those who have finished their Diploma conversion program at Wingham’s! We also have many individuals working with us both through public course and by Open Learning who have recently gained their qualifications and we congratulate all of you

o GOVERNMENT FUNDING FOR EMPLOYERS FOR CERTIFICATE IV IN FRONTLINE MANAGEMENT o

Employers should be aware that funding of some $4,000 per eligible employee is available for training in the Certificate IV in Frontline Management. This funding is available in NSW and QLD but unfortunately not Victoria. Please contact Larry Lucas at fmi on 02 9281 2635 or by email at larry.lucas@managementcando.com if you would like more details.

o NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS? o

In the New Year we often tend to make resolutions to become fitter and for those readers in Sydney I would like to share with you the excellent fitness service of Evolve Health and Fitness based at Northbridge. (Please note this is not a paid advertisement but is put in simply to share a great service with you). Derek Scott at Evolve is a great trainer, he tailors the exercises to meet clients particular needs, whether a beginner or someone going back to an exercise regime. He is good at gradually building up fitness and constantly moving gently but firmly to the next level. His great sense of humour also makes it a pleasure to have him as a trainer. The Evolve studio combines the latest exercise equipment with a truly personal service

mail Derek at DEREK@EVOLVEHEALTHANDFITNESS.COM or phone 0403 150 613 for details of their introductory offer. Evolve’s website is http://www.evolvehealthandfitness.com/

Wishing you a great year!
