The AQF level in the table above is the Australian Qualifications Framework level. The higher the AQF level the more advanced the level of responsibility is.

As a guide to duration Managers are encouraged to allocate about 6 working weeks to complete all study and assessment for a unit. This means:
- The Diploma is usually two to three years
- The Certificate IV is usually one to two years.
- The Certificate III is usually about one year

This is a guide only and program duration will vary with organisational and individual needs as well as recognition of current competency or prior learning.

Mentors and Mentoring System
In the Frontline Management Institute's programs participants consult with a Mentor in the organisation for guidance and signing off on workplace projects. Mentors are usually experienced managers in the organisation; they may be at any level from Frontline Manager level up to General Manager level.

Mentors play an important role in ensuring the ongoing development of staff. Mentors also ensure participants perform to required standards in the organisation. They are an important part of the program in terms of workplace based development.

When we contract with organisations we suggest that Mentors receive training from us. Mentors receive guidelines in the Assessment Guide and receive support and guidance from FMI as agreed. FMI can provide ongoing conferences or teleconferences with Mentors on a scheduled basis.

If an organisation cannot supply Mentors we can enter into agreements for FMI Mentors to be supplied by the Frontline Management Institute.

Line Managers
In the Frontline Management Institute's programs participants refer to their direct report Line Manager in the organisation for signing off on workplace projects to ensure they are appropriate for the organisation and as a further validation.

When we contract with organisations we suggest that the role of direct report Line Managers in the program is clarified and defined and they are informed through the organisation of this role.

Participants must brief their Line Manager on the requirements of the program for workplace development and workplace project assessment.
Line Managers are an important part of the program in terms of workplace-based development.

Senior Managers
The Frontline Management Institute's programs create positive change in the organisation. The programs are optimised for the organisation if they have the support of the senior management team.

FMI suggests, based on its experience, that for a significant management development program we discuss the program with selected senior managers and identify specific needs of the organisation to be emphasised in the program. We would normally seek to brief selected senior managers on the implications and expected outcomes of the program.
